The 61st Miss Universe Pageant will take place in December 2012. Last years, Miss Unvierse 2011, Leila Lopes from Angola, will pass on the crown to her successor. The local Miss Jamaica Universe 2012 competition is set to take place in May. According, to the terms of the Miss Universe Organization, the winner of the local competitions have to be chosen before June 1, 2012.
This is a good look, as in general I believe the Caribbean girls choose their winners too late, hence not giving the representatives enough time to prepare to compete at the international level. The Miss Jamaica Universe competition was previously owned by franchise holders, Invyte Productions and recently taken over by Grand Palladium’s general manager, Dimitris Kosvogiannis.
The reigning Miss Jamaica Universe is Shakira Martin, and in 2010, Yendi Phillips represented Jamaica and the Caribbean well, placing 2nd, the highest place 1st runner up score in the Miss Universe Pageant .
