NEW!! Jamaica’s Chavoy Gordon, 2nd Runner Up Miss InterContinental Caribbean 2011 gets engaged

Congrats to Chavoy Gordon on her engagement over the weekend to Dimitri Kosvogiannis, the General Manager of the Grand Palladium Hotel, in Jamaica.

Chavoy was a favorite in the Miss Jamaica World competition, however she came under much scrutiny for her interview, which unfortunately and clearly due to nerves, her chances were lowered at the title, placing fifth, despite winning the majority of the Sectional prizes, Best Skin Tone, Best Legs, Beauty With a Purpose and Most Aware. The striking beauty however, made up for it as she went on to the Miss InterContinental Competition in Spain and represented her island, Jamaica and the Caribbean very well, placing third.

Miss Jamaica Universe 2011 Shakira Martin starts Sickle Cell Campaign for persons like herself living with the disease

by Natalie Monique

The new Miss Jamaica Universe 2011, Shakira Martin will be heading to Brazil next month, to represent Jamaica in the prestigious Miss Universe pageant. The intelligent, down-to-earth confident beauty is currently spearheading a campaign, raising awareness of the Sickle Cell disease, how to live with the disease and how others can help those suffering from it.

Unlike many other Pageant Queens who ‘choose’ to fight for a cause, Shakira has first hand knowledge on this, in a TVJ interview she cnfirmed she herself is living with the disease. According to her indiegogo campaign page , she does not intend to be a victim and ‘one of her goals is to build an awareness campaign about healthy eating and Sickle Cell, as well a provide supplies and equipment to the Sickle Cell Research Unit in Kingston, Jamaica.’

We wish Shakira all the best with her mission and as she heads down to Brazil to represent her island! Yendi Phillips, Miss Jamaica Universe 2010 made an impressive representation last year, gaining second place to Miss Mexico, outshining hundreds of other beautiful and talented women from across the globe.

Love to learn of these positive and meaningful ventures….we love how she transforms something that others would deem unfortunate as a powerful and beautiful venture….good looking Shakira, true beauty inside and out!
