The Bahamas gained Independence from Great Britain on July 10th, 1973, after being an English colony for 300 years. Bahamas is not only known for its Deep Sea Fishing and popular Goombay Punch (drink) but also known as one of the leading Caribbean vacation spots. It is about fifty miles off the coast of Florida, and is made up of over 700 islands including the main city Nassau (New Providence Island)/Paradise Island and the Grand Bahama. Only about five percent of these islands are inhabited however.

Some popular celebrites of Bahamian heritage are Recording artiste Lenny Kravitz, Media personality Al Roker, SportsMan Rick Fox, popular model Shakira Ledard, Olympina and track star Debbie Ferguson, Actor Sir Sidney Poitier and writer/Producer Jimmy Curry. Other cool facts:) Top Celebs such as Nicholas, Oprah, Sean Connery, James Bond and Johnny Depp, Bill Gates, Michael Jordan and Shakira all either own property or islands in the Bahamas.
