Popular international Dancehall Reggae artiste Gyptian is slated to perform amongst a host of other popular entertainers at the MTV Annual New Years Eve celebrations on December 31st. Each year an average of 2 million viewers gather in Times Square to watch the New years Eve happenings leading up to the traditional dropping of the ball at midnight, to ring in the brand new year.

Gyptian is popular for his hit songs, ‘Hold Yuh’ and ‘Nah Let Go’. He received the Soul Train Award in 2010, for ‘Best New Artiste’. He made mention of the success of ‘Hold Yuh’ telling sources that he was surprised at the recognition the single has received, he said, “To be honest, I didn’t even know this song would be what it is. Wi haffi jus’ sit back and relax and enjoy the good outcome that come outta it…it’s a blessing.”

On announcement of the awesome news, Gyptian expressed his pride in his homeland Jamaica and Reggae Music. He told Irie FM sources in an audio interview, “For Reggae and for us as a little island to get this far, is a good look. For one of our own to be doing it…how better can it get? It must be better and greater…”

Gyptian is also set to perform alongside fellow artistes at the VP records Strictly The Best Concert, to be held in the Bronx, New York; a tribute to the recently deceased VP Member Joel Chin, a stalwart contributor in the Reggae Fraternity. This is a great look for Gyptian, his island home Jamaica, the entire Caribbean and the Reggae Music Genre! Taking the Caribbean to the World we sehhhh!!!Keep flying that flag high Gyptian!

NEW!! Sizzla performs for Nigerian Foreign Minister

by Natalie Monique
Dancehall artiste Sizzla Kalongi, though not fully recovered; performed for the first time since his recent bike accident in August, at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, in Kingston, Jamaica.

According to Gleaner sources, Sizzla was invited to perform for the Nigerian Foreign Minister, His Excellency Olugbenga Adeyemi Ashiru. The Nigerian ambassador, Peter Oyodele made the offer, and Kalonji agreed. The event was a night of cultural fusion and exchange, including dishes served and prepared by chefs, both local and Nigerian. Taal told the Gleaner, ‘..the reception gave patrons an opportunity to see that African retentions exist in Jamaica.’

The artiste’s spokesperson Olimatta Taal told sources that it was a great opportunity for both the Caribbean and Africa in further developing thier ties, “It was an historic reception which marked an important union between Nigeria and Jamaica … Jamaica representing the breadbasket of the Caribbean, and Nigeria as a pioneer in opening doors between Africa and the Caribbean.”

Representatives from the I-ncient Council, who were also present at the function, delivered a letter to the Nigerian foreign minister, sources said, the letter addressed African repatriation and building relationships with the Rastafarian community in Jamaica. Sizzla was reportedly happy about the exchange and the opportunity to be involved, he gave an ‘eloquent‘ speech highlighting his views on Pan-Africanism‘. He added, “It felt good being there in an atmosphere of love and unity… seeing the connection of both countries doing business. It will be good to connect ourselves spiritually and culturally, as we know Africa is our home.”

Love this..taking the Caribbean to the world!

Unfortunately, fans will not get to see the popular entertainer, or messenger (as Sizzla is often referred to) on stage again until 2012…Read Story

NEW!! Jamaica’s Dancehall artiste Wasp releases Music Video ‘Thank You’

by Natalie Monique

Jamaican Dancehall’s Marvin Clarke aka. Wasp recently released a Music Video to his popular single, ‘Thank You.’

The song is creatively delivered by the raspy-voiced deejay, with lyrics that contain sarcasm, slight humor and a very thought-provoking message. The artsy video shot by the Jamaican All Female Jamaican Production team, Scorpio 21, directed by Renais marshall and the styling by Sashon Burton.

The visuals have a dark background right throughout, whilst Wasp strategically placed in contrasting attire stands out amidst the darkness. He sings, ‘…Thank youuu, for always ah fight me..thank you fi talk seh you nuh like me (for saying you dont like me)…the more you fight, the more me reach farrrrr…’ Love this!
