Video: Chantelle Winnie, Canadian-Jamaican Vitiligo Spokesperson vying for ANTM Cycle 21


The effervescent, 19 year old Chantelle Winnie is Canada’s first contestant in the popular Television reality series, ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Cycle 21, hosted by Tyra Banks.

Chantelle ‘Winnie Harslow’ Young is also the official Toronto spokesperson Vitiligo, a skin condition which is also popularly referred to as the ‘Michael Jackson disease’.



According to her official Instagram page, Chantelle is of Jamaica descent and lived in Toronto all her life, her mother’s family hails from Trelawny in Jamaica and her father’s from Westmoreland.


Signs of Vitiligo became evident when Chantelle was around the age of four or five, which was first seen on her tummy and it has been progressing ever since. (via Instagram)

America’s Next Top Model first premiered on May 20th, 2003. In 2004 when the popular Eva Pigford won, Jamaica was one of the international destinations during the competition as well as in 2012, co-hosted by former Miss Jamaica Universe, Yendi Phillips. ANTM also further expanded with the ‘Caribbean’s Next Top Model’, shot on location in Trinidad and Tobago . Former Miss Universe and Miss trinidad Wnedy FitzWilliams was one of the judges and the winner Treveen Stewart from Cayman Islands.

Jamaican artistes, Toi and Khaos teamed up in a powerful collaboration with a thought-provoking message, telling everyone to acknowledge the Father, not only in times of need but always…giving thanks instead of constantly complaining…how more real could this get.

The talented duo, not only brought their respective voices to the project, but Khaos also wrote the song and Toi edited the Music Video. The song was produced by Calibur Entertainment and the video by Calibur Films.

NEW!! Trailer/Pics: Caribbean Reality TV Show ‘Island Queen’ premieres March 2012

Now in its fifth year, Island Queen, Barbados’ popular Annual Swimsuit Competition, will be going on to bigger things with their new upcoming Reality TV Show, to be premiered in March 2012. The Island Queen Reality TV Show is produced by Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership (CBMP) and Media Support International, and will focus on the exciting yet gruelling moments leading up to the Grand Finale of this years show, which will be held on April17th, at Black Pearl, Hastings; Christ Church, Barbados.

In the Event Media Release, Island Queen’s Director , Paul Parris spoke of the transition of this popular local Event to a Reality Show. He highlighted that the development of the move ‘was part of an effort to innovate the marketing of the event as well as extend its longevity and reach, further adding,“The TV show gives the audience an opportunity to see the girls as they prepare for the event and connect with them, while showing the hard work it takes to make Island Queen happen.”

In addition to the improvement in production of the show itself and the upcoming Television series, sources say, there will also be a marked improvement in the use of Technology to enhance public voting for the contestants, and an upgraded location change from previous years. The series will be aired in 35 countries, made possible through their partnership with CBMP’s ‘Live Up’ campaign. The theme for this years event is “I am Aware: Soldiers For Awareness” focusing on HIV/Aids Awareness.

This is a good look for the island and the entire region…taking the Caribbean to the Worlddd!! Take a peek at the 12 Island beauties (contestants) donning blood red swimsuits, accentuated by camouflage, in honor of this years HIV Awareness theme….great concept!
